DIZZY

As I was going through old photos recently, I realized that I wanted to do this  fashion blog thing six years ago, but had no idea at the time.

These few photos were taken in 2011 when I needed a headshot and full-body shot for a local talent agency. When I submitted the images, they told me, “Sorry no hats in headshots or full-body shots.”

Well crap! I alwaaaaaays wear hats; so often that some might wonder if I actually have hair on the top of my head. I never re-shot the photos and put the talent agency on the back-burner.  Probably a good thing since all I knew how to do was pose with my hands in my pocket, ha!

Fast forward a year. I’m sitting at a café sipping coffee, reading the local weekly and there is an article of my former art student, who is featured in the “Next Big Style Blogger” competition for Refinery29, which is a big deal.  I’m like “HOW COOL!!” and like “WHAT is a fashion blog?!?!”

So I look up her blog→ themoptop.com ← and I LOVE what’s she’s doing.  It’s raw, bohemian, vintage, with messy hair and thrift store finds, pictures in front of her garage door, and I just loved it!  She’s continued to build her fashion blog over the years and I continue to follow her success.  She is also finishing up a fashion marketing degree in Portland, OR, and has become a truly influential blogger, sharing her easy everyday style, collaborations with brands and her love for The Beatles, messy hair, cacti and living an authentic life.

When I discovered what a fashion blog was, I thought to myself: “I want to do this, but with art too!”  It took me 4 years to get there, but some things are worth waiting for. Thank you TheMopTop for being an inspiration and the catalyst to start my blog.  Much love to you! ♥

This painting, Dizzy, was a playful exercise during a period when I was inspired by pop art and textile patterns.

A happy day to you all! xoxo

I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays.

    • Thank you for the compliments! Yes, it is a paid theme, but definitely with a lot of customizations. Sometimes I wish readers could scroll easily from post to post, however I’d loose the focus on each individual post. Glad to hear you like the layout, thank you very much! :) Valerie
