Spring, yes!!?! It feels like it’s finally arrived!
I was certainly dressed with anticipation for spring this day, however I really wanted falling snow for this shoot. I love the contrast between the bleak background neutrals and my massive color-splash ensemble!
I needed to add some brightness to the day, so I chose a combination of analogous colors in different tints. Analogous colors are groups of three or four colors that are next to each other on the color wheel:
Red, red-violet, violet and blue-violet are all adjacent on the color wheel and pairing them together in combinations makes for a tasty harmony of hues. Pink is simply red mixed with white. I personally think pink+purple is a better aesthetic combo than red+purple.
I loved creating this painting and the challenge of matching the colors and vibe to the wardrobe pieces in the photographs. Thankfully, we have a lot more natural brightness to look forward to!
Enjoy my friends and go put on some COLOR; spring is here!

I love that you are even going into the “purple zone” Valerie! In the 60s, we wouldn’t have dreamed of pairing red and purple or heaven forbid–red and pink! What freedom. Love the colors, Val.
Hahaha! Can you believe I went into “the purple zone”!?!?! Love the freedom!! ❤️
